-

Luke had never ran so fast in his entire life. He did one loop around the football field while everyone in the stands cheered and clapped and screamed before running back to where his friends were waiting. He thinks that there was someone chasing after him, but he wasn't even sure. Luke was running too fast to even notice anything. It was all a blur.

He could not believe that he just did that. He was so stupid. So, so stupid. Luke Hemmings was going to be known for the rest of his life as the moron that streaked across the football field at the homecoming game.

He ran over to their spot under the bleachers, finding Michael and Calum, who were standing there with their mouths wide open.

"Can I have my pants back?" Luke asked, out of breath, holding out his hands and hoping that Michael wouldn't be a douche and just give him his pants back right away.

"No, are you kidding? We have to run!" Michael yelled, grabbing Luke's wrist and dragging him behind them.

"I just ran across a whole football field!" Luke yelled, but continued to run behind Michael and Ashton as they made their way back to wherever they were headed. "And I'm naked!"

"You're going to get in trouble!" Calum yelled over his shoulder.

"But I'm naked!" Luke repeated. He didn't want to get caught, that was obvious, but he was still very uncomfortable. Running around naked was not as fun as it looked.

"Just wait 'til we get back to the car!" Michael groaned.

They ran across the street and down a couple blocks (Luke was going to pass out) before they made it back to Ashton's car, who parked it there specifically for this reason. Speaking of Ashton, Luke had no idea where he was.

"Can I have my pants now?" Luke yelled, aggravated with his friends for making him do this in the first place.

"Yes, fine! Jesus Christ, Luke, take your fucking pants!" Michael screamed, throwing Luke's clothes at him.

"Thank you!" Luke screamed back, still out of breath from running so much. He quickly put his boxers back on, but before he could do anything more there were voices heard coming down the street and he stopped.

"No, people love stuff like this. It happened two years ago, some kid named Tommy - " Ashton's voice got louder as he made his way down the street, and Luke already knew who he was talking to.

"Fuck my life." Luke muttered as he looked on at Ashton walking down the street, holding hands with a girl. "Honestly."

"Luke, put your pants on." Calum whispered, nudging Luke in the side with his elbow.

Luke couldn't keep his eyes off of Ashton (but more specifically the girl next to him). She was even better than Luke had ever imagined, and he was having a very hard time believing that she was actually Ashton's girlfriend. How did he end up with a girl like that?

"That's the hottest girl I've ever seen." Luke whispered back and Michael nodded quickly, agreeing with him.

"Put your pants on." Calum whispered again.

"What?" Luke mumbled, then realized that he was standing there in only his boxers. "Fuck."

Luke grabbed his pants and his shirt off of the ground and got himself dressed, trying to ignore the sound of Ashton and his girlfriend talking.

"Oh my God, Ash. It's him, it's the streaker! You didn't tell me you were friends with the streaker!" She whispered, grabbing Ashton's arm.

"He's my best friend, babe, I've talked about him before." Ashton chuckled, still not paying attention to any of his friends.

"I'm right here." Luke spoke up, clearing his throat. Now that he was fully clothed again he felt much better about himself, and not as insecure.

"Hi!" Ashton's girlfriend smiled at him, giving Luke a small wave. He didn't really think this through, and now he was panicking and trying to think up something to say in response.

"Hey." Luke nodded, "I'm the streaker."

"Hi, Streaker." She laughed, holding her hand out for Luke to shake. "I'm Charlie."

"My girlfriend." Ashton took a step forward and wrapped his arms around Charlie's waist, pulling her back so Luke couldn't shake her hand.

"Ashton." Charlie frowned, looking up at Ashton. "I was just being friendly."

Ashton leaned down and whispered something in Charlie's ear, making her let out a small giggle. Great, he probably told her all about Luke's dumb little crush.

"Charlie, this is Michael," Ashton said, pointing to his friends, "and this is Calum."

Luke wanted to come out and tell her what his name was, but he found that it might be better if Charlie just didn't know what it was. Maybe this way they would become anything more than acquaints and Luke wouldn't have to risk accidentally falling in love with her.

"Charlie." Michael nodded, "That's a nice name."

"Thanks." Charlie laughed, tucking a piece of hair behind her ear. "It's short for Charlotte, but only my grandma calls me that."

"It's cute." Calum agreed, biting down on his bottom lip because of the look on Ashton's face.

"You did a good job, Luke." Ashton said quickly, changing the subject.

"Thanks." Luke chuckled, nervously rocking back and forth on his heels. "I feel like I'm going to puke."

"Just don't do it in my car, please." Ashton said sternly. Michael and Calum both took a step back, just in case Luke threw up everywhere. Again.

"Am I gonna get in a ton of trouble for this?" Luke asked, suddenly more worried than he had been before. All he did was run around naked for a few seconds, was that really so bad?

"Maybe." Michael shrugged, looking at Ashton.

"I don't know, maybe you'll get suspended for a few days." Ashton said, shrugging as well.

"You should have worn a mask." Charlie spoke up, all eyes turning to her. She blushed a little and looked down at the ground, grabbing Ashton's hand and lacing their fingers together.

"I asked if I could wear a mask, they wouldn't let me." Luke said softly, referring to his dumb friends.

"I don't think you'll get into too much trouble, Luke, they might not even know who you are." Calum attempted to make Luke feel better, but it didn't really work. Luke really doubted that this whole thing was going to go unnoticed, he was definitely going to be punished in some way.

"Yeah, none of the teachers at this school really know who you are, you're kind of a nobody." Michael laughed, finding this more amusing than he should.

"That's not true." Calum argued, defending Luke.

"No, it is true." Luke shrugged. "My English teacher thinks that my name is Liam."

"See? You won't get into too much trouble, Luke, you'll be fine." Ashton said again, resting his chin on top of Charlie's head.

"If you do get in trouble I can see if my dad can help at all. He works at the school, you know." Michael suggested.

"Your dad works for the school's tech support team, I don't think he can do much." Ashton chuckled, his lips forming into a big smile.

"Shut up, that hot math teacher always hits on him. He always tells me stories." Michael snapped, folding his arms over his chest.

"I still think he's lying about that." Luke said quietly, kind of hoping that Michael wouldn't hear. He was really just trying to make Charlie laugh, even though she wasn't paying attention to him at all.

"Shut up, Luke. Next time you break your laptop my dad won't fix it for you." Michael said, glaring at Luke. "We both looked through your internet history by the way, I had no idea that you were so into - "

"Michael!" Luke whined, cutting his annoying friend off. He would really rather that Michael didn't share what kind of porn Luke watched to everyone. Especially Charlie.

"Michael, stop it." Calum said, slapping Michael's shoulder again to try and get him to stop being so annoying.

"They usually aren't like this." Luke heard Ashton mumble to Charlie, who just laughed again. She seemed to be enjoying herself, which was kind of good. She still made Luke really nervous, so he was afraid to say anything more to her.

"So, where are we going now?" Michael asked, leaning up against the side of Ashton's car. He was looking for a party to go to, Michael always was. And he didn't even like parties, he just liked the girls.

"Wherever you guys want." Ashton shrugged. "We don't have any plans."

"I thought you said we could..." Charlie trailed off and stared up at Ashton with a confused look on her face.

"What?" Ashton asked, furrowing his eyebrows.

Charlie stood up on her tip toes and whispered something in Ashton's ear this time, and he nodded in response to whatever she was saying.

"I need someone to drop me off at Amy's house, I told her that we'd hang out tonight." Calum said, reminding Luke once again that Calum was in a super-serious relationship with a great girl and Luke wasn't.

"Charlie and I apparently have plans tonight, but you guys can still come over." Ashton said after a minute of quietly talking to Charlie, turning back to his friends and pointing to Michael and Luke.

"You want Luke and I to come over while you and Charlie go upstairs to have sex?" Michael asked, making both Ashton and Charlie's eyes go wide.

"No, no that wasn't what we were going to - " Charlie stammered, trying to cover up the fact that Michael was right.

"We weren't going to - " Ashton began, shaking his head. He sighed and wrapped his arms around Charlie again and pulled her close to him, hiding her face in his chest.

Ashton and Charlie were cute together. Luke hated it.

"You can just drop me off at home." Luke sighed. His mom was probably awake still, he could watch a movie with her or something.

"Drop me off at Mark Wilson's house, he's probably having a party just like last year." Michael added.

"So am I everyone's personal chauffeur now?" Ashton scoffed, grabbing Charlie's hand and leading her over to the car. "Calum wants to go to his girlfriend's house, Michael wants to go to a party, Luke wants to hang out with his mom..."

"Basically." Michael shrugged, hopping into the backseat.

Luke walked around the side of the car and tried to get in the passenger seat, which is where he sat on the ride over here, but received glares from both Calum and Ashton.

"Hemmings, get in the back!" Ashton yelled. Charlie walked around to the passenger side and stood next to Luke with her arms crossed. She gave Luke a sympathetic smile and that just made him nervous, so he quickly turned away and got into the backseat.

The car ride home was awkward, to say the least. Luke, Calum, and Michael crammed themselves in the backseat of Ashton's car and sat uncomfortably while Ashton and Charlie sat in the front and made out at every red light. Luke kept having to tell them when it turned green.

When they dropped Calum off at Amy's house things got a little better, because Luke actually had some room to breathe. Michael wasn't talking a lot or being very annoying, so they only thing that Luke really had to worried about was the couple in the front seat.

To say that Luke was jealous was probably a huge understatement. He just didn't understand how someone as perfect as Charlie could go for someone as stupid as Ashton. It did not make sense, and Luke was determined to figure out what was really up.

After Ashton dropped Michael off at Mark Wilson's house he parked in the driveway, like he was planning on staying there for a while, and crawled closer to Charlie, who had also unbuckled her seatbelt. It was like they'd forgotten that Luke was even there.

"Ashton, stop it." Charlie giggled, before wrapping her arms around Ashton's neck and pulling him in for another kiss.

Luke was actually surprised at how bad he wished that it was him in Ashton's place instead. Sometimes Luke wished that he was Ashton, even though Ashton was an idiot that barely graduated high school. Ashton seemed like he had it all, and Luke didn't think it was fair, because Luke would kill to have a life as great as Ashton's. He had a hot girlfriend, a nice car, and rich parents. What more could you ask for?

"Um, Ashton?" Luke cleared his throat, trying to catch Ashton's attention for a second.

"Ashton, not here." Charlie giggled again, the sound of Ashton's lips on her skin almost too unbearable for Luke. He considered just getting out of the car and walking home, but decided not to when he remembered that he lived almost three miles away from Mark Wilson's house and he was still worn out from running earlier.

"Ashton." Luke repeated a little louder this time, hoping that it would be enough.

"Ashton, your friend is still here, knock it off." Charlie said, lightly slapping Ashton on the back of the head to get him to stop.

"Oh, right." Ashton chuckled, pulling back from Charlie and getting into the drivers seat again. They both buckled their seatbelts and Luke could see Charlie trying to fix up her hair in one of the mirrors. "Where am I taking you again?"

"Uh, home?" Luke scoffed, not believing that Ashton had actually forgotten where he was supposed to be going.

"Right." Ashton nodded.

Luke had never been so happy to get back home. He was so glad to be out of that car and away from those people. He practically did a tuck and roll when Ashton pulled up into the driveway, and didn't even wait for the car to fully stop before Luke hopped out.

"Bye, thanks for the ride." Luke said quickly, slamming the door shut. As he walked down the driveway and through the back door of his house he mumbled to himself, "If you park in my driveway and make out I'm gonna fucking kill you."

"What was that?" Luke almost screamed at the sound of his mom's voice behind him. He put a hand on his chest, trying to make sure that his heart wasn't going to combust from how frightened he was.

"Mom!" Luke groaned. She always snuck up on him no matter how many times Luke told her to stop.

"I didn't think you were going to be home this early, didn't you say you were going to hang out with your friends?" Luke's mom, Liz, asked.

"Well, Calum went over to his Amy's house and then Michael went to a party..." Luke trailed off.

"Where's Ashton?" Liz questioned.

"He's with his girlfriend." Luke said quickly, barely making eye contact with his mom as he walked past her and into the kitchen. He grabbed an unopened bag of chips from the cabinet and then moved to the fridge.

"Oh?" Liz followed Luke, seeming confused on what he'd just said. "Oh."

"Yeah." Luke nodded, rolling his eyes as he came out of the fridge with a two liter bottle of Coke in his hands.

Luke could pretend that he was one of those guys that practically ignored their mothers and only talked to them when they wanted money or food, but he wasn't. Luke told his mom pretty much everything (not his failed sex life, but Liz could honestly care less about that), including his pathetic crush on Ashton's girlfriend.

So, yes, Liz knew all about Luke's love for a girl that he had no chance with, and that's why she didn't stop him when he went into the freezer and grabbed a tub of double chocolate ice cream.

"I can make you some food, Luke." Liz chuckled. "There's leftover pasta."

"I'd rather just drown my sorrows away in chocolate ice cream and Coke. Thanks anyway, Mom." Luke shrugged, turning out of the kitchen and quickly running down the hall, into his room.
