"Okay, okay, okay, but then she took her shirt off and - hold on, let me get more..." Luke trailed off. He was at Michael's house and already drunk, having broken his promise to Ashley yet again.

Michael passed Luke the bottle of vodka, watching him take another big sip before encouraging him to continue his story.

"Then she was sitting on my lap, did I say that already? I don't know, but she was on my lap and-and-and we were kissing, yeah!" Luke said excitedly, remembering what he was talking about.

"Okay, then what?" Michael asked. He really wasn't that interested in what Luke had to say, he was just enjoying Luke making a drunk fool out of himself again.

"Well we were kissing a lot and then Ashley unzipped my pants but, like, before we could do anything...before we could do anything her stepmom came home and caught us." Luke said, letting out a nervous chuckle.

"Oh my god, Helen?" Michael asked, laughing loudly to himself. "What'd she say?"

"She wasn't really mad at all. I don't think she was." Luke mumbled, playing around with the end of his shirt. "She wasn't mad, but Ashley was really mad."

"Oh yeah, Ashley hates Helen." Michael said, laughing again.

"She hates Helen." Luke nodded, agreeing with Michael. "So Ashley yelled at her and then we went back upstairs and she took me into the bathroom and we did stuff."

"Alright, what kind of stuff?" Michael asked.

"Well, I, uh, we kind of..." Luke trailed off, because he wasn't sure if he should tell Michael what him and Ashley did. It was their relationship and really none of Michael's business, so he didn't think it was a good idea to say anything. It was private stuff and he didn't think Ashley would appreciate him telling Michael.

"Come on, tell me." Michael urged Luke on, elbowing him in the side.

"It doesn't really matter." Luke shrugged. He and Ashley hadn't gotten any further than they'd gotten before, but Luke was okay with that. He was working really hard on trying not to push Ashley to do anything she didn't want to do.

"Yes it does, Luke!" Michael laughed sarcastically. "Come on, tell me how far you guys went!"

"Well I didn't do anything to her." Luke said, beginning to feel kind of nervous. He knew that Michael was going to convince him to tell no matter how hard Luke tried to stall it.

"Luke, seriously? I thought I told you that you have to return the favor!" Michael groaned. "You can't expect her to do all of the work every time."

"No she's not." Luke pouted, shaking his head. He tried to take another sip of the vodka but realized that there was none left in the bottle Michael had given him. "Can I have more?"

"Yeah." Michael nodded and got up off of the couch, returning a few seconds later with some more alcohol. "So, as I was saying - "

"She's not going to get bored of me." Luke said, grabbing the bottle from Michael's hand and drank some more. "She hasn't even asked me to do anything to her yet."

"Because she doesn't want to ask!" Michael said, rolling his eyes. "She probably thinks that if she asks you she'll seem desperate!"

"No she won't." Luke shook his head again, his words slurred. "She'll ask when she's ready, and she's obviously not ready now so I'm not going to force her to do anything. I'm not like you."

"Fine, I guess you're right." Michael sighed.

"Really?" Luke asked. He didn't think that Michael was going to give up that easily, but maybe he'd gotten through to him somehow without even realizing.

"Yeah." Michael nodded, sighing again. "I'm a really shitty person, Luke, sometimes I forget that the girls I sleep with have feelings too."

He was glad to hear that Michael was finally coming to the realization that the way he treated people wasn't right. Luke didn't know if he was the one that made Michael realize this or not, but he still felt proud just from being there at the moment.

"Everyone has feelings." Luke noted, taking another big sip of the vodka.

Michael stayed silent for a long time after that, but Luke was too busy drinking the other bottle Michael had gotten him to really care.

"Don't hurt her." Michael said after a minute, turning to face Luke.

"What do you mean?" Luke asked. He didn't understand why Michael suddenly cared about Ashley, he'd acted like he hated her all year.

"Don't hurt Ashley." Michael explained, "I really fucked up when I was dating her and I don't want her to go through that again. Be a good boyfriend, please."

"Oh, I'll be the best boyfriend." Luke said, nodding quickly. He was starting to get a little loopy now and he knew that he should probably stop drinking soon, but he didn't. Things felt so much better when he had some alcohol in his system. "I would never do anything to hurt Ashley, Michael, don't worry."

"Good. I'm really glad to hear that." Michael said quietly.

"Yeah, I think I might love her." Luke mumbled, the bottle pressed to his lips again. Michael slowly reached over and grabbed the bottle, taking it away from Luke.

"Do you really?" Michael questioned. He seemed a lot more surprised than how Luke thought he would be.

"Well, yeah, probably." Luke shrugged. He had never been in love before so he wasn't really sure what it was supposed to feel like, but when he was around Ashley he felt like he was in love.

"Have you told her that yet?" Michael asked. He scooted even closer to Luke, a lot more interested now.

"Oh no, I'm not going to tell her." Luke said, letting out a big laugh. "I can't tell her, I don't think she'll say it back!"

"Hey, I think she'd say it back!" Michael argued, shaking his head. "I can tell that she really cares about you, she has to love you at least a little!"

"Well even if she did, she probably getting annoyed with me now." Luke grumbled, whining to himself about not having his drink anymore. "She acts like my babysitter half the time."

"And whose fault is that?" Michael scoffed. Luke didn't understand why that was funny.

"I don't know." Luke shrugged. "I guess it could be my fault. She just treats me like a baby sometimes, I wish she didn't."

"She's not trying to treat you like a baby, Luke, she's just worried. Ashley gets really scared when you drink so much, she's told me." Michael explained, gently patting Luke on the back.

"Why was she talking to you?" Luke pouted, slightly jealous. Ever since he found out that Michael and Ashley used to date he felt a little weird about them talking to each other. He trusted Ashley, of course, but Luke wasn't sure about Michael.

"She gave me a ride home the other day." Michael shrugged. He turned and noticed the expression on Luke's face. "Nothing happened, I promise. She talked about you the whole time."

"What did she say?" Luke sat up a little straighter, happy to hear that his girlfriend talked about him when they weren't together.

"I just told you, she talked about how she's really worried about and she doesn't like when you drink." Michael said casually, leaning back into the couch.

"I like when I drink." Luke mumbled.

"I know you do, but it's a really bad habit to get in to." Michael let out another sigh. Luke still didn't understand why Michael was suddenly acting so differently, but he decided not to ask. He was too drunk to care about Michael's response. "You're going to hurt yourself one day, especially if you keep doing this alone. I liked it better when you drank with all of us at parties, at least then Ashton was there in case you passed out."

"I'm not going to hurt myself." Luke whined. He was sick of people trying to tell him what to do.

"You don't know that." Michael shrugged. "You could really do some damage someday, you should be careful."

"I am careful." Luke protested, folding his arms across his chest. He knew what he was doing and he knew that he had a high tolerance for alcohol, Luke could drink a lot before anything really bad happened.

"Not really, Luke, if I hadn't taken that bottle away from you you'd still be drinking right now." Michael sighed, shaking his head.

"Hey, can I sleep over tonight?" Luke asked. He didn't want to go home because he was scared that his mom was going to get mad at him for going to Michael's and getting drunk again.

"No, I don't think so. You puked on the carpet last time and my mom is still pissed, she's not gonna let you stay." Michael shrugged innocently and Luke let out a groan, because now he didn't know where to go.

"Well now what am I supposed to do now? I can't go home." Luke whined, stomping his foot on the ground.

"I'll call Ashley, she'll let you stay at her house tonight." Michael said. "Helen and her dad are at some banquet thing for his job, my dad told me about it the other day." He stood up from the couch and pulled his phone out of his pocket, dialing someone's number.

"Hey, who are you calling?" Luke asked, trying to stand up as well. As soon as he stood, though, he fell over again and landed back on the couch.

"I'm calling Ashley, dumbass." Michael scoffed, rolling his eyes.

"Right." Luke nodded.

"Hey, Ashley?" Michael asked into the phone, a small smile on his lips. "Luke's here and he's really drunk... I know, I'm sorry... Can you come get him?"

"She's going to be so mad at me, Michael, I promised her that I wasn't going to drink!" Luke stood up again and tugged at the sleeve of Michael's shirt, trying to get him to hang up the phone.

"Alright, thanks." Michael nodded. "The front door's unlocked, you can just come straight to the basement."

"Michael." Luke whined, standing up and using Michael's shoulders to steady himself.

"I'm sorry, man, but you need somewhere to go tonight and I know that Ashley will take care of you tonight." Michael said, and Luke was still confused about why exactly his friend was being so nice.

Minutes later Ashley came downstairs, and she looked really upset. Luke was kind of scared, and he hid behind Michael to try and get away from Ashley.

"Why did you let him drink?" Ashley asked, folding her arms across her chest. She marched over to Michael and glared up at him. "Did you not listen to anything I was saying in the car the other day?"

"I listened! I didn't think he got this bad, I just gave him a little!" Michael argued back.

"Oh yeah, a little." Ashley scoffed, glancing down at the coffee table that had empty bottles scattered all over it.

"Some of that is mine." Michael defended, still letting Luke hide behind him.

"I'm sure it is." Ashley rolled her eyes, reaching around Michael and grabbing Luke's hand, gently pulling him forward.

"I'm sorry, Ash." Michael apologized, letting out a big sigh. "He was really upset when he came over, I thought that getting a little alcohol in him would cheer him up."

"It's not good for him." Ashley said softly. Luke wrapped his arms around Ashley's waist from behind and rested his head on her shoulder. He felt dizzy, like if he didn't hang onto something he would fall over right away.

"I know, and that's why I made him stop." Michael nodded, grabbing the empty bottles from the table and beginning to clean up the basement. "Just talk him home and let him rest, please."

"Baby..." Luke mumbled softly, leaving sloppy kisses up Ashley's neck as she talked to Michael.

"Not now, Luke." Ashley whispered, gently elbowing Luke in the side to get him to stop. "Thanks for calling me, Michael, I - "

"Baby, I missed you..." Luke continued, burying his face down in the crook of Ashley's neck and kissing her a few more times.

"I think you guys should head out now, I'd hate to get in the middle of what you two have going on." Michael chuckled. "Luke looks like he has some big plans for tonight."

"Oh, shut up." Ashley groaned. She pulled away from Luke and grabbed his hand again, lacing their fingers together and helping him walk upstairs.

"Are you mad at me?" Luke asked quietly as Ashley helped him get his coat on, which he had left by the front door when he came in.

"No, Luke, I'm not mad." Ashley sighed. Luke could tell that she was lying, even though he was drunk. "I just wish you wouldn't do this to yourself."

"I'm sorry." Luke pouted. He held out his hand for Ashley again, waiting for her to take it and lead him back to her house.

"It's okay, Luke." Ashley mumbled, helping Luke walk across the lawn and to her own house, where the door was already unlocked and ready for them to go in.

"Michael said your parents wouldn't be home tonight." Luke said as they stepped into Ashley's house. She shut the door and locked it behind them, taking off her own shoes and coat before helping Luke with his.

"They're probably going to get back really late." Ashley shrugged. "Do you want to go upstairs or sleep in the basement?" She asked, taking Luke's hand in hers again.

"Upstairs." Luke said quickly, mostly because he knew that he was probably going to need to throw up at some point that night and he'd rather not puke all over Ashley's carpet too.

"Okay." Ashley nodded and pulled Luke behind her as she walked up the stairs, trying not to laugh as he tripped a couple times.

When they finally made it to Ashley's room Luke went over to her bed and sat down on it, grabbing a pillow and hugging it tightly to his chest.

"I have one of your shirts that you left here a while ago, do you want to wear that?" Ashley asked, walking over to her dresser and pulling out the shirt.

"Uh huh." Luke nodded and sat up again, taking off the shirt he was wearing now and throwing it onto the floor, taking the fresh shirt from Ashley.

"I have an extra toothbrush, come on." Ashley said, holding out her hand once again and walking with Luke into the bathroom.

As soon as they got in there Luke began to feel dizzy again and sat down in front of the toilet, immediately starting to throw up all of the alcohol he'd consumed in the last few hours. Ashley sat down next to him and slowly rubbed Luke's back, trying to comfort him like she'd had to do a few times before.

He didn't know how long he even stayed like that, all Luke knew was that he wasn't feeling better no matter how much he threw up, and he could tell that Ashley was getting a little freaked out about it.

"I'm sorry." Luke sniffed, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand once he was finally done. He flushed the toilet, hoping that he actually was done, and that he wouldn't have to go through that again tonight.

"It's alright." Ashley said softly, helping Luke stand up again. She handed him the toothbrush and found some toothpaste, waiting for Luke to brush his teeth before they went back into her room.

"Are you mad at me?" Luke asked quietly. He took off his jeans and left them on the floor, leaving him in just his boxers and the shirt that Ashley gave him.

"I'm not mad, I'm just tired." Ashley sighed. She pulled the covers down and then got into bed herself, already wearing some pajamas.

"Well it's a good thing we're going to sleep, then." Luke giggled, crawling under the covers with Ashley and pulling her closer to him.

"No, Luke, that's not what I meant." Ashley whispered, shaking her head. She rolled over so she was laying on her stomach, resting her chin on Luke's chest.

"Then what do you mean?" He asked.

"I'm tired of this same thing happening over and over again." Ashley said, still whispering. "You keep promising me that you'll stop this but then you call me at 2 AM and I realize that you never really meant it in the first place."

"I'll stop, Ashley, I promise." Luke said, but he knew that it was really no use. Ashley probably didn't even trust him anymore, he'd promised so many things and broken them almost every time.

Ashley let out a big sigh and then stayed quiet for a few minutes, as if she was thinking very hard about this.

"You know, alcoholism is hereditary." Ashley finally said, which was not what Luke was expecting at all.

"What? What's that supposed to mean?" Luke questioned.

"I'm sorry, I really should have found a nicer way to say that." Ashley apologized, letting out a small laugh before becoming serious again.

"I don't understand." Luke said quietly, shaking his head. He knew what Ashley was trying to say, but Luke didn't really want to listen. He wasn't going to become an alcoholic, he wasn't going to be a drunk asshole like his father was.

"You told me about your father and how he had problems with alcohol and it seems like you're slipping into those habits as well." Ashley explained, sitting up again. "You're just going to hurt yourself."

"Why does everyone keep saying that? I'm not going to hurt myself, I'm fine!" Luke insisted. He was lying, he knew that and Ashley probably knew that as well, but Luke didn't know what else to say. He had no other argument.

"Luke, I just sat with you on the bathroom floor for 20 minutes while you threw up from all the alcohol you've had tonight." Ashley sighed.

"That doesn't mean anything. Lots of people throw up when they get drunk." Luke argued. He tried to sit up but Ashley just pushed him back down on the bed.

"I don't want to start an argument right now, I just wanted to tell you what I was thinking." Ashley said, laying down next to Luke again and letting him wrap an arm around her waist. "I care about you, okay? I don't like seeing you do this to yourself."

"Nothing bad is going to happen, Ash, I promise." Luke assured her, even though he really couldn't promise anything.

"You don't know that." Ashley said, grabbing one of Luke's hands and intertwining their fingers.

"I'll try to stop, I really will." Luke said. He could see that Ashley really did care and that she really did want him to stop this, so he was going to try for her.

He was also about to fall asleep, and he wanted to finish this conversation before he did that.

"I know you always say that you're going to but you never do." Ashley mumbled, reaching up and quickly kissing Luke on the cheek.

"I really will this time." Luke yawned, unable to keep his eyes open anymore.

"I love you, Luke." Ashley whispered, but Luke was already half asleep and barely paying attention to what she was saying anymore. "I don't want anything bad to happen."
