ELEVEN
We reach a floor similar to the one where I went on my first day of my level 10 'training'. This floor has many large windows for viewing the ruins we call a city. Though there are still 9s working on this floor, there are not many of them. A single, solid door sits at the back of the field of 9s. Larissa walks into that room as Abbey, Liam and I trail behind her.
The room is pure white from the shiny floor tiles to the paneled ceiling, all except for a large mirror on the wall. I remember back to my first testing when I was six, how I touched my hand up to a mirror similar to the one I see now. My hand looked like it was touching another hand. Being a curious child, excited by new discoverings, I put my hand up to my bedroom mirror. The hand on the other side didn't touch mine. After contemplating this for a while, asking anyone and everyone I saw about this new discovery I made, I had finally figured it out. The mirror from the test was a one way window. Though I have a feeling in my gut that I already now it's a window, but I still check. Putting my hand up to the glass, I see another hand get closer untill it touches mine. 'Glass,' I think.
A hand is placed firmly on my shoulder. I turn to Larissa, who is pointing to the chairs in the room.
"Sit" she tells me, no emotion on her face. With Larissa's grip tight on my shoulder, I walk with her to one of the chairs and take a seat, while Abbey and Liam stand by the door. Larissa walks to the door and out into the main lab with Abbey and Liam behind her. A zipping sound happens and before I can move my hands are strapped onto the chair's arms. I struggle and try to free my arms, but fail and sit still.
Around two minutes have passed when I hear a banging on the door. I stare at the door, which opens. Two 7s enter dragging along a struggling Camden. He kicks at the guards, try to pry their hands away from his arms. With much work, they finally get him in the chair next to mine, which he is immediately strapped into. I notice Camden is strapped in with a strong metal material, while mine is just a soft fabric that tickles my wrists.
The two 7s that were escorting Camden then exit the room. I turn to Camden, who is still struggling in his chair despite the unbreakable restraints.
"Should I be wo-" I begin, but am cut off when the device planted in my head starts to tingle. I become paralyzed, unable to move like I was when they first embedded the chip into my head. My speech is cut off. I realize Camden has stopped struggling too, which leads me to the conclusion that he too is paralyzed and muted. I become drowsy, my eyelids getting heavier and heavier until I am unable to keep them open, so I give in and with that, my world is blank.
However, from the darkness emerges a light. The light grows brighter and brighter until I have to look away. Once my vision corrects, I realize I was looking straight into the sun, and that I somehow got from inside the 10 tower to outside in a place I don't recognize, yet am somewhat familiar with. I gaze around the area, only seeing ruined buildings, except for one shiny, new building standing tall in the middle of the city. As I try to realize where I am, I see Camden standing about 20 feet away from me.
I'm about to ask him where we are when he somehow moves from where he was standing to right in front of where I'm standing without taking a step. How did he do that? He stares into my eyes, like he's searching for something. I stagger back, caught off guard, then thrust my hands up in front of me to stop Camden from moving up to me again, which throws Camden against one of the condemned walls. Shaking it off, he stands up, disappears, then reappears in front of me like he did before.
'What is he doing?' I think. Then, without moving his mouth, Camden replies to the question.
'It's called teleportation. What I am doing now is called telepathy. What you just did to me was telemotus. They're powers being tested on us by Conrad and the other 10s at what I think is they're plan to take over the city, which is where we are now.'
Mouth gaping, I look back at the one tower still standing and realize that it's the 10 tower.
