TWELVE

Camden grabs my wrists and turns to face me.

"We have to go. The dream state we're in is the same every time, which means I have a few minutes to train you before they send the beast in" he says urgently.

Before I get a chance to respond, he instructs me, "I need you to be able to teleport, first and foremost. See that car?" he asks, pointing to a rammed in car. I look at it and nod.

"Good. Now don't take your eyes off of it, and I want you to imagine you're standing ontop of it," he tells me.

I do as he tells me. Closing my eyes, I imagine the car, then me on top of it. Wind rushes through my ears, and when I open my eyes I'm no longer beside Camden, but on the car. I laugh and smile, seeming like the first time I have since becoming a 10.

I look at Camden and focus on him with my eyes open this time, and try to visualize myself beside him. My sight goes black and wind rushes through me. My vision comes back and I'm facing Camden. I smirk at him.

"How was that?" I ask, tossing my hair from my face.

He laughs. "Good, but I-". A large roar replace my happiness with fear. Mini earthquakes come along with a large stomp. I look up and panic, breathing heavily. Approaching Camden and I is a gigantic animal, taller then all the buildings except the ten building. It's hairless body wrinkles with each step it takes, and green saliva hangs from its menacingly sharp teeth. My heart is pumping heavily and I feel like it's going to explode from my chest. I turn away from the beast and back to Camden for clarity. He stares into my eyes.

"Don't just stand there. We can't leave this place until we kill it" he says, looking at the thing. With that, he disappears. I look around, trying to see where he teleported. Spotting him on a taller building that is still somewhat intact, I imagine myself standing beside him and teleport up there. I look at him, expecting some sort of explanation of what to do to defeat it. He doesn't say anything.

Finally, he shakes off his trance and replies. "See that building that has a couple windows?" He asks. I look at the building he's pointing at. The sun makes the dirt caked windows shine dully. It is about 10 stories as it is, leveling up to where the beast's chest starts. The beast is a few yards from it, a good minute away at the speed it's travelling.

"Yes" I reply, focusing on it.

"We're gonna teleport there, then, when I tell you to, imagine you're pulling it towards you." he says. I look at him like he has two heads, confused as to why I would want that thing closer to me.

He replies, reading my thoughts again. "Just trust me, ok?" he tells me, then teleports onto the building he told me to go to.

I let out an exasperated sigh, then follow him onto the building. He doesn't turn to me when I get there.

"On three", he says, referring to his plan. I stare at the beast dead-on.

"One" a cracking sound distracts me for a moment, but I don't pull my eyes away from my target.

"Two" the cracking turns into a full on pull until something sounds like it's being pulled from the ground.

"THREE" I almost can't hear Camden end the countdown over the roaring of the beast. With all might might, pull it forward. It roars even loader. The roar isn't one to spark fear though, it is one of a great pain, like the beast is dying. I watch as blood drips from its underbelly, and it topples over.

I notice that Camden has teleported down by the beast. I follow him. Taking a closer look at the beast's wound, I nearly gag. Camden uprooted a lamppost and skewered the animal, and by pulling it forward the post cut through the stomach. Blood puddles around it.

What specifically pains me, however, is the fact that I can see the pain in the beast's eyes. I let out a small cry as the pain, as well as the life, drains from the eyes and its body becomes limp.

"Remember that its not real. He's just a simulation and isn't feeling any pain" Camden says, hearing my whimper. I nod, and look down at me feet.

Slowly, my feet and ground beneath my feet disolve until there is nothing but black and darkness. I realize I am no longer in the simulation.

I try to open my eyes, but can only manage to keep them open for a few seconds at a time. My lids are heavy, and the light that fills them intensifies an already extremely painful migrane I already have. However, I can gather that I am still in that white room with the two chairs, one of which I'm still strapped to.

Eventually, I give up on trying to keep my eyes open and leave them shut. Within I few minutes of this, I fall back to sleep.
