Chapter 4B
It was almost the second day since the voyage began.
Life at sea was incredibly peaceful.
Daisy and I continued our research on medicine in the laboratory. Lynn read books, drew map and ran errands for the sailors on the ship. Despite being multitasking, he always managed to find time to write reports about Daisy. It was as if he could split himself into ten Lynns to work. Even though my demonic energy sealing barrier had activated, limiting his power to 70-80%, he was still incredibly productive. Truly a successor to the demon king.
The crew on the ship included both undead and mortal races. They all worked together very harmoniously.
During the first few days, I had several terrifying experiences. My limbs felt like they were going to fall off when I encountered sea monsters. But Daisy seemed to know that those marine creatures were all friendly.
"They just came to say hello," Daisy told me.
Those friends included giant octopuses. When greeting, they would open their mouths, full of sharp teeth like a death trap. Then there were the giant stonefish, with its equally terrifying teeth but it had a lamp-like lure that emitted a gentle, pleasant light. Next came the electric eels and flying stingrays, capable of both flying and diving underwater, like alien creatures. All were images from sailors' nightmares. Yet, every time Daisy's aquatic friends surfaced, making noise or splashing water, the crew would laugh and chat happily, as if blessed by the gods.
After hearing Captain Korus's story, I understood.
"A hundred years ago, there was a terrifying species of fish that damaged countless ships, and these four great sea monsters volunteered to destroy it. We are grateful and have worshipped them ever since. Although they are enormous and fearsome in appearance, they are very friendly and only eat seaweed. It seems they cherish Daisy. Because before they became extinct, the power of the faerie-dragon species produced many kinds of attractive kelp and seaweed that provided them with the strength to destroy the wood-eating fish that damaged ships."
"Oh, what a fascinating story. I knew nothing about it."
"Haha, there must be no records, these are all just oral stories passed down among the Necropolis crew.
Now I understand. This is considered the lucky sea mascot of the sailors in the kingdom of darkness.
Daisy, though small, is very talkative and communicative; she can play with any sea monster she meets.
"Besides your name and basic information on the file, I don't know where you are from, Captain."
"Oh, the Grand Sorceress is truly humble and polite. Please don't be so formal with me. Like the story of the four great sea monsters, I am one of many crew members who were saved by them during an attack by those wood-eating fish. Then I was brought to Necropolis. I was rescued and helped by the undead king Harxon to return to the mainland of Fel, but we preferred life in Necropolis, so we became citizens and worked in the kingdom."
"So your origins are also from Fel?"
"Yes, I suppose most citizens of the Necropolis are like that. I used to be from the kingdom of Kenmare; surely you chose that city as your first landing point on your way to Florissant. It's been almost 100 years since I last returned there." Even though he was an undead, with no nonverbal expression on his face, I could still sense the melancholic nostalgia in Kuros's voice.
"So we're neighbors then."
"Right."
The Necropolis's veil of darkness was truly vast. It took almost two days to get out of the shadows and see the sun again. Leaving the shadows also marked the moment we said goodbye to those friendly sea creatures.
Seeing Lynn's happy face and Daisy's colorful aura, I knew where they both wanted to go. The place they called home, the place they had been swept far away by fate and now had to return to. Divris felt the same way. Was this journey a return to their origins? I couldn't feel it much, but it had been months since my reincarnation, and I hadn't seen the sunlight, so I was happy.
Two days later, thanks to the speed-boosting magic and the protective barrier created around the ship and crew, the vessel reached its destination faster than expected.
"We're almost at Maki Port, Grand Sorceress," a tiefling sailor announced, knocking on the door of the laboratory.
"Finally, we've arrived." I stretched, tired, and packed my bags, preparing to board the boat.
"My experiment hasn't progressed at all," Daisy said sadly.
"Why not? I see you've already made over 60 samples," Lynn said in surprise.
"Even so, it's still not perfect. I want my elixir to have all the side effects removed and be more effective," Daisy said enthusiastically.
"Daisy, you're being too ambitious, but don't push yourself too hard. We're almost at Vestri, you should also check out the pharmaceutical market there; you might be able to apply some more formulation methods," I suggested.
"That's right, when we get to Vestri, we have to visit the alchemist's shop."
I took a sample of Daisy's nearest elixir bottle and took a drop to test its quality. The easiest way is to use the Black Book. You don't need a whole drop; just lightly touch the solution with the tip of a feather, then dab it onto a page of the black book, and you'll get accurate analysis information.
Daisy is really ambitious. I wonder if she knows that her product is five times more effective than anything currently on the market. But I didn't say anything; it seemed like that would only encourage her to go even further.
For the past four days, Lynn has also been studying maps. He's compiled many maps available at the Amethyst Library into a book. I asked him why he was so passionate about drawing and compiling maps.
"I don't remember where I used to live. I only know it was a big forest, far from a town whose name I don't even know. Over the past 60 years, so much has changed, and I'm afraid all those places are gone."
This answer once again saddened me. I felt even worse because I didn't have any information to help Lynn either. It wouldn't be right to rely on Nihilus; I couldn't share Nihilus's information with anyone else, even if it was common knowledge.
"Don't worry, Dirvis. I believe I'll find my homeland. I've received a lot of help from you; you've taught me so many methods. So please rest assured," Lynn said with a bright smile.
I nodded, feeling incredibly happy inside. It's true that I don't always need to feel responsible for supporting my companions. Their ability to solve problems on their own is more important than ever.
The eastern port of Vestri appeared incredibly beautiful. While not as modern as the Necropolis, it was neatly arranged and spacious. The planners here had a very far-sighted vision.
Standing near the ship's edge and looking towards the port, not only I but everyone felt incredibly excited.
As we approached the dock, we were shocked to realize our ship was three times larger than the largest ship in the port.
"I should have used an illusion spell to make the ship smaller, I'm truly sorry everyone," I said in bewilderment.
"Please do not worry, Grand Sorceress? This is a plan by the king to showcase the power of the Necropolis so that other countries will be wary," Captain Korus said.
"So that's it, but everyone at the port must have a heart attack seeing such a huge ship. I thought all ships were the same size."
"Perhaps the Grand Sorceress Divris hasn't left the kingdom for a long time; it's thanks to your works that such large and sturdy ships could be built."
I never imagined the power of the Necropolis could be so terrifying. It truly is the city of the immortals.
"Let's leave the ship; Vestri's messenger is waiting for us." I said cheerfully.
