●Prologue●
"So you killed him?"
"The bastard got what he deserved," the woman muttered under her breath.
She was tired, her hands playing with the young boy's hair, the one she had been cradling in her arms in a failed attempt to keep him warm.
"How," the young man asked, his hands pulling a small blanket from under the cooler he had in the passenger's seat of his car.
He handed it to her, his eyes still focused on the road as they sat silently together.
They had been driving for hours, the woman pulling the blanket on her sleeping son, her eyes nearly closing on their own, but opening up at the thought of getting caught in her sleep.
"I don't want to relive it," she groaned, looking out the window, her hand balancing her chin.
He smirked, looking ahead at the road, his own tired eyes nearly betraying him as he swerved to avoid a car he had nearly ran into.
"Hey! Watch it!" the woman yelled.
"What's your name," he asked, trying to make small talk in order to keep himself awake.
She looked at him from the mirror, a bit annoyed at his question and at the fact that he had completely dismissed nearly crashing into a car.
"Y/N... But, from the looks of the ID, I'm now Elaine. And you?"
"Jungkook," he answered emotionless, his eyes going to the clock on the screen of the stereo.
"What about your new name?" She asked, curious to know the name that had been given to the man.
"Jeong-guk."
"Isn't that basically the same?" She mumbled.
The man nodded, making a sharp turn into a long road that seemed to stretch for miles, the only thing surrounding them were rows and rows of trees.
"No matter what name I change into, he'll find me, so might as well make it easy for him. Plus, I'm not one who likes to give his own identity up just because of some stupid amount someone has for my head," he said confidently.
Elane simply sighed, her heart aching at the sound of that.
It wasn't for his sake that she worried, but for the sake of her own son.
He was everything she had left, and he was the only thing she cared about.
Her son.
After the death of the man she thought she loved, all she could do was run.
Run, far away from responsibility, into a new country, a new nation, all in hopes of giving her son a second chance.
But she knew.
Deep down she knew they'd find them, that some way or another she'd have to pay for her sins.
However, if there was something she also knew for sure, was that she was willing to do anything, even kill again, if it meant sparing her son from the cruel world hiding behind the wall her and Jeong-guk would soon crossover and leave behind.
"If it makes you feel any better, I also killed someone. Add on the fact that I also stole the only thing my father loved with all his heart, and you have a perfect recipe for disaster," he snickered.
"Doesn't reassure me much," Elane muttered, her son mumbling in his sleep.
"I'll say, you sure are hard to amuse. Be ready Elane... It's time for us to cross."
The long line of cars formed at the border made her stomach grumble, her palms becoming sweaty.
If all went well, she'd be on the other side by morning, hopefully with a better life in her hands.
Still, she knew it wouldn't go smoothly.
Nothing ever did.
And her suspicion would be confirmed the minute her son woke up, his eyes staring right at the man in the driver's seat, wide, and scared.
"Mommy who is that?"
"He's your dad," Elane replied, petting the little boy's head gently.
That was the story. A family of three crossing over.
However, if her son didn't go along with it, it would be game over for them.
"That's not papa," the kid answered.
Both of them sat silent, their guts turning as they moved closer to the militarized zone.
Would they be able to pull it off?
