Chapter 15

"How long have we been walking?" Alex asked as they entered another town. She glanced exasperated at him over her shoulder.

"Alex. It's been two days. We are not going to cross a state and a half that quickly. We haven't even made one hundred miles yet."

"How far have we gone?"

"Roughly sixty-six." Alex whined, hanging his arms.

"Sixty-six and we have already put up with so much shit?" She rolled her eyes, watching the houses as they passed.

"We should probably get a house towards the outskirts in the directions we are going. A smaller house too, at that," she said, some what distractedly. Then she snapped to a realization, narrowing her eyes at her younger counterpart.

"Wait, why are you whining? You're the one that's been all over the west and 'dabbled in Mexico'. You've done more travel than me, yet you're complaining?" she asked him. He sent her a sly smile.

"Because I want you to notice me, Senpai," he whispered. He all but slithered up to her. Her mouth set into a slight frown of disturbance as her eyes judged him.

"Do not be one of those people," she said in a reprimanding tone. He smiled widely at her. She chose to ignore him, seeing that they were walking down what appeared to be the mains street of the town. A low moaning noise echoed out near by. Both Alex and Sun stiffened their posture, reaching for their weapons instinctually. They walked forward, turning towards a side alley, they found a younger girl writhing painfully of the ground, holding her side. Sun rushed forward, putting her gun away.

"What happened to you?" she asked the girl. Her hair reached a few inches past her arm pits, the tips stained a light mahogany red as if the dye had been slowly fading out of her hair. She closed one eye, looking out the other as if she couldn't see out of one. Sun brushed her fingers through her hair. The girl looked so young. She couldn't be a day over seventeen. The girl sucked in a deep, painful breath, shifting a bit.

"Those fucking titty-twisters got me," she rasped out, moving her bloody hand from the side of her stomach. She revealed a harsh tear out of her side; the blood gushed out in the pattern of teeth.

"What's you name?" Sun asked softly, grabbing the girl's hand and pressing it against the wound with pressure.

"Jordyn." Sun smiled.

"That's a nice name." Alex looked at the two girls from the opening of the alley. He didn't realize that Sun had enough emotions in her body to act so kindly to people. He smiled slightly at the scene before him despite the girl bleeding out.

"Don't patronize me. I know I'm going to die," Jordyn muttered out, squeezing her eyes as a wave of pain washed over her. Sun grabbed for her bag, shifting through the contents of her bag. When she did come up with anything useful, she turned towards Alex.

"What are you doing, you idiot? Get over here!" she hollered to the boy loitering at the opening. He rushed forward, smiling sheepishly at her as he tugged off his pack. She sifted through the contents, coming up with only the scarf. She tossed his backpack to him, unrolling the scarf.

"Okay, Jordyn? I'm going to try to wrap this around you to try to make a tourniquet, okay?" she asked the girl, who just nodded along. "Alex, lift her midsection up a bit so I can get this under her," Sun said, not bothering to tell her it was going to hurt. Alex looked at her, hesitancy in his eyes.

Sun nudged him along silently, widening her eyes and jerking her head towards the panting teen. Alex's rolled his eyes to the sky before reaching forward, lifting up her midsection. Jordyn hissed loudly, thrashing her arm out towards them as a means of defense. She worked quickly to wrap the scarf under her body as she threw the fit. Alex got whacked in the arm, wincing as blood welled from the fresh scratch marks she left.

"Okay, drop her!" Sun commanded as she brought the scarf out of her other side. Alex let go of her quickly as if her shirt was on fire. Sun tied the scarf over the wound nimbly, tightening it to pressurize the wound.

"Okay, Jordyn, you're going to be fine, sweetie," Sun called out soothingly, brushing away a hair that fell into her face when she thrashed around. Jordyn rolled her head to the side, peeking an eye open to look at the make shift bandage.

"At least now my enemies can't see me bleed," she chortled weakly. Alex managed a faint smile at her attempt to lighten the mood.

"Damn kid, you're fairly cheery despite being close to death," Alex mused. Sun jabbed him harshly in the ribs, shooting him a warning look. Jordyn narrowed her eyes at him, letting out a noise of pain.

"Don't call me a kid, shit stick. You're not much older than I from the looks of you," she managed to seethe out through clenched teeth.

"Alex, lift her up. We are taking her with us," Sun said, getting up to crouch on her toes. She stood up, grabbing both of their backpacks. It was difficult for her two juggle to bags along with two rifles, but she managed to balance them all in her arms and back. Alex picked Jordyn up bridal style, giving her apologetic look and muttering 'sorry' when she sucked in a breath of pain.

They walked a few minutes, Sun scouting for the nearest and best house. They made it to one of the last streets in the neighborhood. Towards the middle of the street, laid a house that was smaller than the rest, and a single story. Sun looked back to check in on her two companions.

"How are you doing, Jordyn? Alex?" she asked worriedly

"I'm doing great!" Jordyn said, smiling weakly over to her. "Alex's biceps are fantastic!" Alex sent Sun a sly smirk before winking.

"I'm glad someone appreciates my looks. I tried very hard to get this way," Alex bragged proudly. Sun turned back, rolling her eyes.

"We're almost there, lovebirds." Sun called sarcastically from the front as she veered more so towards the left side of the road. Jordyn laughed behind her before sucking in a pained breath.

"Mistakes were made!" Jordyn rasped out. After a few more breaths, her pained ebbed away slightly. Sun motioned for Alex to stay out front with Jordyn as Sun circled the perimeter for a way in. She found a broken window towards the side, breaking off the remaining shards with the butt of her gun. She grabbed the upper portion of the window, swinging her legs in before grasping the book bags and tugging them in.

She headed back towards the front door, throwing the bags and guns onto a love seat as she passed the living room. She opened the door for Alex and Jordyn, sweeping her arm out as if inviting an old friend into her home. Alex carried in the wounded girl, laying her down on the couch. She made a low whine as she squeezed her eyes closed.

"I'm going to go check out the rest of the house," Alex said, leaving the girls to explore.

"Hey." Jordyn beckoned Sun over. Sun ambled over towards her way, kneeling down to be closer to her. "So, you guys fucked yet?" Jordyn asked curiously, instinctively resting her hand over the wound. Sun brought her head back, her eyes wide with shock.

"Excuse me?"

"Dude," Jordyn started, sending her a disbelieving look. "The tension between you two is so obvious!" Sun's face turned deep red as she flushed.

"Me- him? There's noth- no! Oh my god! Just no!" Jordyn smirked slyly at her flustering. "We've known each other for three days for Christ sake! I don't even like the guy!" Sun stated exasperatedly. At that time, Alex came back from his touring, taking in the scene before him.

"Is everything okay?" he asked innocently to the two girls. Sun snapped her head up as Jordyn snickered.

"Everything is fine," Sun seethed out, jumping to her feet. "I'm going to bed. Watch over Jordyn, Alex," she called to them. Taking the long way around the house to get to the bedrooms to avoid Alex. Alex watched her with confused eyes before turning towards Jordyn.

"What's up with her?" Alex asked her. "What happened while I was gone?" Jordyn smiled cunningly.

"You'll find out eventually."
