Chapter Two

As the two she-cats walked into the Clan's hunting grounds, Icebird was the first one to start looking for prey. Ivydawn watched as she looked around to see what was around. She knew that Icebird never went on many hunting patrols because of her pelt, but she always enjoyed it whenever she was able to hunt.

Ivydawn smiled at Icebird when she looked over at her. When she went back to looking for prey, Ivydawn sat down on a fallen log. She didn't feel like hunting for now. She decided to let Icebird have some fun for the time being while they were out of the Clan's camp.

Ivydawn looked through the trees with fallen leaves on them.  They were much easier to through them. As she looked through the trunks, she was able to see much more things. In fact, the warrior noticed something she was pretty sure no other cat spoke about. It was far off, reaching into the twoleg dens that were around the edges of ShadowClan territory, but Ivydawn knew what it was when she finally noticed it.

It was a monster. The skin was black, but it looked as if there was a rusty color coming up from the skin of the monster. From the round and large paws of the monster, Ivydawn noticed there was moss growing up from it. She knew no twoleg was inside of it. There couldn't have been. The monster wasn't moving at all. It looked dead to her.

What if it's just resting? It may be an old monster. I should report it back to Hollowstar. He would want to know, Ivydawn thought as she stared at the monster, studying the appearance.

Ivydawn tilted her head. The longer she stared at the monster, the more she stared to notice something else. There was something else that was black emerging from the bottom of the monster, squeezing out and pressing its body on the monster. She could notice a furry body, but that couldn't be right. It looked like a cat, but Ivydawn knew that just couldn't be right at all when she looked longer at the being. It had wings that had a leathery texture to it from what Ivydawn noticed. Nothing furry expect a bat had leathery wings to it, and that didn't look like a bat. It was too big.

Maybe I should go see what it is. It doesn't look dangerous, Ivydawn thought. It sounded like a good idea at first the longer she watched.

Ivydawn slowly stepped off the log, being careful enough to not disturb Icebird as she hunted. She approached whatever was in front of the monster, but she kept herself hidden. Ivydawn didn't want to scare off whoever was in front of there. She wanted to watch what was in front of the monster.

Her body crept with stealth as she went on. It was as if she thought she was hunting herself, but she wasn't. She knew that. Ivydawn wasn't going to kill whatever the creature was. Watching it would be a better idea in case the being was hostile and attacked Ivydawn with no hesitation.

By the time Ivydawn was just one fox-length away the being, she saw it also moved, making it easier to see the details of expect for the face which was in the other direction, looking at something. She could tell the being moved two tail-lengths away from the monster.

Ivydawn noticed that there was log that was empty on the inside, making it easy to crawl into. The log was obviously knocked down by a twoleg from what she knew. She crawled in, being able to still see the being. The ShadowClan warrior's eyes widened when she saw it.

The being was a cat, but at the same time, that didn't seem right. Its body was cat-like with a short-haired pelt. The tail was thin, but long enough to touch the ground. The being's pelt was completely black. Not a single patch of white fur was present. While the being seemed cat-like, there was many other things about it that wasn't.

Ivydawn definitely saw leathery wings that were a mixture of black and dark brown. She noticed how bat-like those wings were. She saw those kind of wings on a bat and nothing else. The being's ears looked scaly like a lizard. The scales were mostly black, but dark gray was scattered in the scales. The longer she stared, the more she noticed those scales around the being's body. There were scales on its paws, tail, and shoulders. All of them had those lizard-like scales present on it.

Ivydawn was in shock. She had to tell Hollowstar about this. A being like this was going to wonder around her Clan's territory if not noticed. She had to go off and leave. She couldn't stay any longer around here with a being that looked horrible. She shuffled back, ready to sneak back to Icebird, but her paws scrapped against the inside of the log, making a high-pitched screeching sound. Her claws unsheathed when she heard it, making it a bit louder.

It wasn't that loud. The being shouldn't have noticed it, Ivydawn told herself. Being paranoid about the being, she pushed herself up a little, peaking out. The fur on her back rose up when she saw that the being did hear the noise.

The being's ears rose up as if it heard a deathly scream. Its neck twisted all the way around. The rest of its body didn't even move with it. The neck rotated like an owl's, expect it didn't look funny to her. Ivydawn always laughed at owls, but she wasn't laughing at this being.

She stared into its eyes as it looked over. At first, she thought the eyes were amber, but they appeared to be darker. As she looked more closely, she saw they were red. She knew that wasn't possible. Cats couldn't have red eyes. Red eyes didn't exist. They were unrealistic.

The being had a scaly and crusty face plate over it that rose up, showing it's normal cat-like face. Its mouth dangled open, showing two rows of sharp teeth that they were yellowed and blood-stained. A pale pink tongue dragged out, appearing like a giant worm.

It let out a bloodcurdling hiss, trying to scare off whatever might have been around it. The leathery wings flared out further from its side. The being lifted up into the sky in Ivydawn's awe before it shot up into the sky, disappearing in a blur in front of her.
