Chapter Three

The bell rung signaling the end of class. Signaling me talking to Jake which is now what I'm about to do.

Take a deep breath Skylar. He just wants to talk, and you don't know what it's about yet.

"You wanted to talk to me?" I asked trying hard not to sound desperate which I wasn't, I don't think. Ugh, I don't know.

"Um yeah, I was just wondering if you—if you, um, wanted a high five?" I looked at him not hiding the curiosity in my eyes.

A high five? Really?

I nodded my head slowly and gave him what he asked before turning on my heel walking away shouting a goodbye over my shoulder.

As I was walking to my next class I got out my phone and sent a quick text to Jane for some professional help.

Me: I need help asap! Meet me in the girls bathroom after class.

I clicked send just as I walked into my least favorite class. Gym. I mentally groaned as I entered the hell that awaited me.

*****

As I stepped foot into the girls locker room I immediately went towards my locker to get my stuff out. I changed into my regular clothes for gym which was my Nike shirt and some Nike leggings with my usual black high top converse.

When I was satisfied with how I looked after pulling my fawn brown hair into a high pony tail, I headed out of the locker room and went into the line of students who also dreaded this class.

"Okay everyone, listen up. Today you imbeciles are going to be running track all hour so let's go." We all nodded at our gym teacher, Ms. Levi, and headed outside to where the track was awaiting us.

Ugh, why does life hate me?

*****

Finally after what seemed like a century, the awful class ended.

I went inside and changed into the clothes that I was wearing previously then before anything else, I checked my phone to see if Jane had responded and sure enough she did.

I swear, you can always count on that girl to be on her phone even when she's not supposed to be.

I chuckled inwardly and let my gaze drop to the tiny text on my phone.

Jane: You know you can count on me. I'll be there for all the info. Ttyl.

Now that I knew she would be there I rushed out of the gym and went to the girls room to which I was not surprised to already see Jane standing there waiting for me.

"What happened?" She immediately asked as soon as she was aware of my presence.

After I filled her in on what happens with Jay and our talk she gave me a wide grin.

"Why are you smiling? This isn't the time." I said, annoyance clearly laced with my voice.

"Ohmygod are you that stupid? He likes you Sky, he just to shy to do anything about it."

I shook my head, "Jane as nice as that sounds to have someone actually like me, as in like me like me. It just isn't possible, no one at this school even glances in my direction except for you."

She rolled her eyes at me and reached out to give me a big hug which I returned, grateful for a friend like her. "Your amazing you know that?"

Jane squeezed me even tighter and giggled, "damn right I am." It was my turn to roll my eyes at her as I laughed, a real genuine laugh as Jane joined in.

I looked at the time on my phone realizing that class would start soon. Sure enough the clock on my phone read—

10:55 am

Crap. Class already started, Jane glanced at my phone as well to see the time and once she did, she gave me her signature smirk.

"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" She asked, with a big grin on her face.

"Probably not but please do continue." I said with a hint of sarcasm laced within my voice. She rolled her eyes before saying the best three words I heard all day.

"We skip school." She said as I nodded eagerly wanting desperately to get out of this hell hole.

"Good, then let's get going. Shall we?"

"We shall." I said as we got out of the bathroom and headed straight for the main entrance.

*****

"What about this one?" I asked, showing off the black dress which went down just above my knees that I was currently wearing.

"Nah, try something else." Jane said looking through all of the clothes on the rack, and I mean all of them.

"Like this." She said, shoving a dress that looked rather short. "Jane," I whined before continuing, "this dress looks way to short."

She giggled at my reaction and winked at me. "That's the point sweetheart." I rolled my eyes and put it back on the rack. "I am so not wearing that." She giggled yet again and just shook her head at me.

"I'm starving so I'm going to the food court to grab a few things, you want anything?" She asked slowly heading in the direction where food was awaiting.

"No thank you, I'm not that hungry honestly."

"Wow, way to make me feel fat." She pouted and stuck her tongue out at me playfully. "I'm getting you a cookie at least because I'm not going be the only one eating because then I'll get fat and you don't want me getting fat do you?"

I rolled my eyes at her outburst that was normal for Jane. "Jane, that doesn't even make any sense."

She played mock hurt and strutted away swaying her hips in the process.

As soon as she was gone my phone vibrated signaling that I had gotten a text which was rare for me. Sadly.

I got my phone out of my purse that Jane makes me take everywhere ignoring all my protest.

I glanced at the text on the screen and as soon as I read the text, the grip on my phone loosened and fell to the floor with a thud. My heart rate began to pick up and I desperately looked around, panic slowly settling in.

My mind kept flashing back to what the text had said, my thoughts running wild. The one thought that was the one that wouldn't go away was who?

Unknown: I know the truth.
