Day 26
A column of water burst up front.
A massive grey body spiralled into the air.
The creature screeched, baring rows of sharp teeth before falling back in the water.
Mid yelped and I readied my oar, eyes on the water as it circled our little boat.
It could so easily capsize us. And that would mark the end of Mid and his sanity.
It bumped slightly to my right.
Its head poked out, ready to snatch a piece of our wooden salvation.
With a mighty swing, I slapped the oar above its head, sending it yowling in shock, diving.
The fight wasn't over.
Me and Vespi kept our eyes trained, for a ripple of a bump of grey.
Vespi screeched.
I turned to see him scrabble as he was being pulled into the water.
His tail was caught between two grey jaws.
"NO!" I screamed, waving my oar, but the monster claimed Vespi in a final tug, dragging him to the depths.
I peered over the boat, heart pounding.
No no no
Vespi!
Our new friend, the water person, stared at the water, frowning.
She thrust a watery hand downwards. For a few moments, nothing happened.
But then, the water erupted, as a sphere of water rose.
Within the sphere was the monster and Vespi.
The girl extended another hand, pulling the two in different directions.
A second water sphere pulled away from the first, taking Vespi.
The sphere placed Vespi on the boat, before slipping back into the water gracefully.
The girl's eyes glowered at the creature.
The monster gnashed its teeth, writhing in the prison of its own element.
"Kindly leave us alone." She hissed, black eyes flashing.
The monster stopped for a moment, staring at the water creature in curiosity.
Then it lunged forward, long scaly neck stretched as its head popped through the sphere, snapping its jaws at our new friend.
But she flung her hand up, and so did the monster.
With a final throw, the sphere shot across the stretch of ocean, and disappeared into the distance.
