|~Chapter Eleven~|
Fernstalk woke up coughing water mixed with some blood. She saw Treeleaper, Gorsesky and Snowykit standing above her. Well, Snowykit was sitting next to her and not over, since she's so smol.
The gray tabby she-cat felt a rush of adrenaline as she collected the information and realized that there was a TOM standing next to her (even though she wasn't afraid of him anymore) and a KIT. A KIT that she has been teaching.
Maybe Snowykit should be my apprentice... what?
"Fernstalk, you're awake!"
This helped Fernstalk take her mind off of the apprenticing thing.
The gray-and-white tabby she-cat looked at Treeleaper, who was pressing her furry brown face down to stare from her huge amber eyes to Fernstalk's big blue eyes.
"Uhm.. yes? I mean, yes I am awake!" Fernstalk replied hesitantly.
Snowykit bounced with joy that the deputy was going to tell her a story, and not any of the other kits.
"Snowykit, don't jump that much! Be polite and civilized. Now, Snowykit, don't crush Fernstalk completely! We still need her, and she needs her rest!" Treeleaper calmly gave orders to the white fluff-ball of a kit.
Snowykit rolled her eyes in a playful way. "Okay, Treeleaper, I'll be gooood...."
Treeeaper smirked, happy to have it her way.
"Good." She turned to Fernstalk. "Take care of Snowykit. I hope this helps you!"
Fernstalk had completely forgot that she was afraid of kits, since she didn't know how to be motherly or loving.
Thanks, Treeleaper...
"Is there going to be a story or naw?" meowed a 'fierce animal'.
Fernstalk nodded. "Say it politely, and then I'll tell you the story of what happened to me!"
Snowykit blushed a bit, and Fernstalk could see that. Snowykit's white fur had hidden some of the red just enough to make it look pink.
"I'm sorry." She quickly 'ahemed'. "Could you please tell me the true story about what had happened to you when you were taken away by the two-legs?"
Fernstalk couldn't help herself. The only thing that she could do was laugh.
She laughed for a bit, then saw Snowykit's hurt expression.
"Aaah, I'm sorry. I've never had.. such a good laugh. That was really funny, Snowykit. You'd be a great comedian." She sighed happily.
Snowykit lifted her paw off of the ground as if having a question.
"Oooone question," she meowed. "What's a comedian?"
Fernstalk burst out laughing again.
"A comedian is somebody who makes others laugh," she meowed with no hesitation. "Like you."
Snowykit smiled happily and spun around in a quick 'twirl'. Then she sat down and looked at Fernstalk with pleading eyes, which Fernstalk knew were pleading for her to tell the story already.
"Okay, okay."
"Once upon a time," Fernstalk meowed dramatically. "There were cats living on this island. It was a beautiful forest-covered island and surrounded by cold and sometimes warm water that almost always has fish inside.
There was a happy little gray cat, the second-in-command of these cats, named Fernstalk!"
Snowykit cheered.
"And one day, she was patrolling the island for anything bad-bad, and she saw..."
Snowykit hated the rising anticipation. Any animal could tell.
"She saw a wooden thing that was carrying TWO-LEGS!"
Snowykit gasped so loudly Fernstalk thought that she was going to choke.
"What happened next?" Snowykit wriggled where she sat.
"The two-legs CAME to the island! They came and they threatened to take the leader away with them!"
"Treeleaper?" Snowykit asked. Fernstalk nodded.
"oooooh."
"Please don't interrupt the story, Snowykit.
So then, the seccond-in-command, Fernstalk, had sacrificed herself to save her leader. She let the two-legs pick her up and pet her back. It was awful.
But she knew that she had to do it. For her leader. For everything. She needed to make up for every bad thing that she had done.
So, a little while later, the two-legs stopped holding her.
And that's when Fernstalk knew that it was her chance to escape forever.
She jumped off into the water and started paddling with all the strength she had. She was a fair amount of fox-lengths to the island, but it was still hard for her. She lost her strength easily and didn't have much adrenaline in her body to help her.
But, no matter what, she kept paddling until she got back to the island. And when she got there, cats popped out of every hiding spot you could get for Hunter-and-Mouse."
Snowykit seemed to like that, as she opened her eyes wider.
"And then every single cat on the island gave her fish, birds, anything that you can think of, really, and they carried her to the highest tree in the forest where she felt like she would rule over them forever."
Snowykit didn't seem to believe that part, which meant that she was paying attention to yesterday.
"The end!"
Snowykit's white fur fluffed up a bit.
"That's it?" she asked.
Fernstalk nodded. "That's it!"
Snowykit ticked her head to the side.
"Really?"
"Really."
"You suuure?"
"Positive."
"Mmmhm." Snowykit rolled her eyes knowingly.
"Okay, okay. I changed the last part since you already know what happened."
Snowykit smiled triumphantly.
"I knew it!"
Fernstalk blinked quickly for a few seconds.
"Of course you did. You are very smart, don't you know that?"
Snowykit blushed
