Chapter 29
"The wound looked a lot better today," Alex commented as Sun put away the medical supplies. She nodded, standing up and shrugging the backpack on.
"It should. The sugar does wonders," she responded as Alex stood up. He brushed off his pants before readjusting his straps on his bag. Sun stared up at the tree house that they had recently come across. The light was still out, maybe a few more hours of day time.
"Should we stay here for the day?" Alex asked as he walked to stand beside Sun. She hummed under her breath for a moment in contemplation before nodding her head.
"Yes, the day won't last that much longer. We can check out what there is in there and possibly add some thing if needed," Sun said, starting up the old looking ladder. It was made out of make shift boards, and it barely had enough room for a foot to latch on to it. She shimmied in through the door way, setting her gun to the side. It was completely barren with nothing but a broken lantern in one corner and a makeshift bed made out of aging leaves. The hideout was small, at most seven feet by five feet. Sun shuffled out of the way on her knees, leaving enough room for Alex to squeeze in through the door.
"Cozy," he muttered, setting his things next to her gun. Sun took off her bag, stretching her back with the weight off. There was a single window on each wall. The glass was glazed over with dirt and spider webs clogged the corners. Sun turned and looked out the doorway.
"We should probably make some type of door," she said. "It'll at least help keep some of the cold out when night comes." Alex nodded along with her explanation.
"But what is there to use? It's nearly winter. There isn't much to use to make a door," Alex reasoned, turning around to let his feet dangle out the door. Sun tapped her chin a few times, twisting her lips to the side in contemplation.
"There might be some trees with peeling bark. We could grab a bunch of that and use that as a door," she explained, lightly pushing Alex out of the way so she could start down. He followed down after her, and together they sought for some bark to cover the gaping doorway of their newest residence.
It had taken them awhile, but they finally returned back to the tree house. They dug some mud up from nearby, packing it in between to keep the pieces together. Sun found out soon after they finished that the ceiling was just high enough for her to stand. So, she did, and stretched her back from the ache it had gained from being hunched over. Alex moved the makeshift door in front of the opening and Sun planted her hands on her hips.
"Well, it'll work. It doesn't look the best," she said matter of factly. Alex turned to send her a grin, and paused as he took her in. She felt her breathing hitch with his silent stare. His eyes took on a darker more hooded look, and then suddenly he was approaching her. Her stomach flipped crazily as his hand came up, cupping her chin. He stroked her bottom lip with his thumb a few times before both his hands trailed up to cup her cheeks. Warmth enveloped her, heating up her blood stream as he leaned down, capturing her lips with his. Tingles hummed through her body as they moved in sync.
He moved her backwards until she collapsed against the floor with him on top. Her hands snaked around and gripped his back and hair. Sun's back arched up subconsciously as their lips clashed in a heated frenzy. A breathy moan escaped her mouth, followed by a groan of his own. His lips left hers as they started a trail down her cheek, kissing a brief part of her jaw before his teeth gingerly raked her earlobe. It sent pleasurable shocks through her nerves alighting her system.
Things passed in a blur, and soon they were shrugged out of their jackets and Alex's shirt was coming off. Sun sucked in a deep breath, holding it in as she reached up to explore the planes of his torso. A feeling came over her, and she could feel that she was ready. She sat them up, reaching for the hem of her shirt, she crossed her arms, pulling it over the top of her head. The cooling air hit her skin, bringing goosebumps up, but she didn't pay much attention. She watched for Alex's reaction. He remained impassive as he laid her back down. She looked down at the ground, feeling nervousness and regret start to build in her chest. He wasn't going to go that far.
She brought her eyes back up to his, and she was surprised by the amount of adoration and tenderness that swam within their depths. Her heart rate picked up as he gripped her bare shoulder, stroking it gently with his thumb.
"Are you sure about this?" Alex asked, hovering over Sun. Her heart swelled at his consideration of asking permission. She bit her lip, thinking it was too late to go back now. She sent him an embarrassed grin, her cheeks flaming up.
"I'll be fine. I want this," she answered him truthfully. He smiled softly down at her, leaning down to connect their lips. At the same moment the sweet kiss started, Alex reached below Sun, undoing her bra clasp.
